The Derry Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Derry GAA clubs. The Derry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1887.
Slaughtneil are the title holders, defeating Kevin Lynch's in the Final in October 2025 to win their thirteenth title in a row.
Honours
[edit | edit source]The trophy presented to the winners is the Fr Collins Cup.[1]
The winners qualify to represent their county in the Ulster Senior Club Hurling Championship. The winners can, in turn, go on to play in the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship.
Slaughtneil are the only Derry team to have ever won the Ulster Senior Club Hurling Championship lifting the Four Seasons Cup on Six occasions[2]
Format
[edit | edit source]Group stage
[edit | edit source]The 8 teams in the Derry Hurling Championship are divided into two groups of four.[3] Over the course of the group stage, each team plays once against the others in the group, resulting in each team being guaranteed at least three games. Two points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. The teams are ranked in the group stage table by points gained, then scoring difference and then their head-to-head record.
Knockout stage
[edit | edit source]Senior final: The top two teams in each group contest the senior semi finals (nominally called the "Senior/Intermediate playoff").
Intermediate final: The losing senior semi-finalists contest the intermediate final.
Junior final: The third and fourth placed teams in each group contest a semi-final, for a place in the junior final.
Qualification
[edit | edit source]At the end of the championship, the winning team qualify to the subsequent Ulster Senior Club Hurling Championship.
