Chui is a spelling of the Cantonese pronunciation of two Chinese surnames, listed below by their Pinyin transcription (which reflects the Mandarin pronunciation):[1][2]

Statistics

According to statistics cited by Patrick Hanks, there were 267 people on the island of Great Britain and 12 on the island of Ireland with the surname Chui as of 2011. There had been one person with that surname in Great Britain in 1881.[2]

The 2010 United States census found 1,420 people with the surname Chui, making it the 19,138th-most-common name in the country. This represented an increase from 1,303 (19,248th-most-common) in the 2000 Census. In both censuses, more than nine-tenths of the bearers of the surname identified as Asian, and roughly two percent as White.[5]
