Synopsis
[edit | edit source]Setting
[edit | edit source]Blood Message is set during the late Tang dynasty.[7][9][10] Thematically, the developers aimed to highlight the struggle for survival of ordinary individuals against the backdrop of grand historical events.[11] They said that they conducted extensive historical research in order to present a realistic setting, mentioning that this is not a story infused with strong elements of fantasy.[11]
Historically, Zhang Yichao, whose allegiance was with the Tang Empire, led a successful uprising to reclaim the regions of Guazhou and Shazhou.[6] Following the capture of Shazhou, he dispatched ten groups of messengers—most of whom were ordinary people—across vast and hostile territories to relay the news to Chang'an.[6] Adapting these actual events, the game is centered on one such messenger.[6]
