Barry Richard (born March 28, 1942) is an American attorney and politician who served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1974 to 1978.

Early life and education

Richard is a native of Miami Beach.[2][3] He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law.[4]

Career

Richard served in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps.[3] From 1974 to 1978, he served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives.[5][6] He ran for the attorney general of Florida in 1978, but lost the Democratic primary to James C. Smith.[7] In 1998, Richard served as the campaign legal counsel to Jeb Bush and Bill Nelson.[8] He also represented George W. Bush in Bush v. Gore.[9][10][11] In 2018, he represented Andrew Gillum during the gubernatorial vote recount.[12]

Personal life

He is married to Allison Tant and they have three children. Richard also has two children from a previous marriage.[14][15]
