Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo is an upcoming action thriller film directed by Takashi Miike and written by Daisuke Tengan based on the IP first produced by Edward R. Pressman, serving as a standalone sequel to Abel Ferrara's 1992 film Bad Lieutenant. The film will star Shun Oguri, Lily James, and Liv Morgan.

Premise

A Tokyo police officer, and compulsive gambler, becomes involved in a complex investigation when a mysterious FBI agent arrives in Japan following the disappearance of a politician's daughter.[1]

Production

The film was written by Daisuke Tengan and based on the IP first produced by Edward R. Pressman. It was directed by Takashi Miike and is a United States-Japanese-British co-production, produced by Jeremy Thomas for Recorded Picture Company, Sam Pressman for Pressman Film, Naoaki Kitajima for Nippon Television and Misako Saka for OLM.[1][2]

Principal photography took place in Japan in May 2025, with Morgan finishing her scenes by May 16.[3][4]

Release

Neon will release the film theatrically in North America, with the company also handling international sales.[1]
