Anomochloa is a monotypic genus of flowering plants in the grass family, Poaceae. It is one of the two genera in its subfamily and the only genus in the tribe Anomochloeae.[2][3][4][5][6] The only known species is Anomochloa marantoidea, native to the State of Bahia in eastern Brazil.[7]
Description
[edit | edit source]Vegetative characteristics
[edit | edit source]Anomochloa is a terrestrial,[1] perennial, rhizomatous[8] herb.[1]
Generative characteristics
[edit | edit source]The oblong, laterally compressed[8] 10 mm long, and 2.5 mm wide caryopsis[1] has an adherent pericarp.[8]
Cytology
[edit | edit source]The diploid chromosome count of Anomochloa is 2n = 36.[9]
Taxonomy
[edit | edit source]It was published by Adolphe Théodore Brongniart in 1851.[2] Within the subfamily Anomochlooideae, it is placed in its own monotypic tribe Anomochloeae.[10][11]
Conservation
[edit | edit source]It is an endangered[1][12] and extremely rare species.[13]
