Ammonium hexabromoselenate(IV) is an inorganic chemical compound with the chemical formula (NH4)2[SeBr6].
Synthesis
[edit | edit source]Ammonium bromide is added to aqueous solutions of selenium tetrabromide acidified with hydrogen bromide:
- SeBr4 + 2NH4Br → (NH4)2[SeBr6]
Also, selenium dioxide dissolved in hydrobromic acid and treated with ammonium chloride produces the compound.[1]
Physical properties
[edit | edit source]The compound forms red crystals of the cubic system, space group Fm3m.[2][3]
The compound decomposes in water.
