Amazon Island is a 1933 Australian novel by Harold Mercer.[1]

It was Mercer's first novel after a series of short stories.[2][3]

Synopsis

In the novel, adventurers discover an island populated by women who are the descendants of buccaneers.[4]

Critical reception

The novel was well received, becoming one of the most popular Australian books of the year.[5] The Bulletin called it "an amazing story of romance, mystery and adventure" where "the story carries a sense of stirring reality in every paragraph."[6]

The Weekly Times wrote, "Everyone who loves stories of strange adventures should read this entertaining story."[7]
