Altkirchen (German pronunciation: [altˈkɪʁçn̩]) is a village and a former municipality in the district Altenburger Land, in Thuringia, Germany. Since 1 January 2019, it is part of the town of Schmölln.[1]

History
[edit | edit source]Within the German Empire (1871–1918), Altkirchen was part of the Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg. From 1952 to 1990, it was part of the Bezirk Leipzig of East Germany.
