Alfredo Astudillo Sieman (25 December 1909 – 31 July 1970) was a Chilean nitrate worker, miner and trade union leader who became a politician for the Communist Party of Chile.[1]
He served as a Deputy during the XXXIX Legislative Period of the National Congress of Chile (1941–1945), representing the 2nd Departmental Group: Antofagasta, Tocopilla, El Loa and Taltal. He sat on the Standing Committees on Government and Interior, and on Industries.[1]
Early life and union career
[edit | edit source]Astudillo worked from a young age in the nitrate fields, as a loader in Tocopilla, and later as a miner in the Toldo de Gatico mine. He became a leader of the miners' union and subsequently of the National Mining Federation.[1]
He joined the Communist Party in 1930 and soon became secretary of the Tocopilla Local Committee (1932).[1]
Political career
[edit | edit source]Astudillo was elected Deputy for the 2nd Departmental Group in 1941, serving until 1945. During his tenure he participated in the Standing Committees on Government and Interior, and on Industries.[1]
After leaving Congress, he worked as a merchant in the Aconcagua region. By 1970 he was a leader of the Northern Regional Committee of the Communist Party in Santiago and served on the Commission of Control and Cadres.[1]
