Aerococcus kribbianus is a species of Gram-positive coccoid, facultatively anaerobic bacteria in the family Aerococcaceae. It was isolated from the faeces of a domestic pig in Jinju, South Korea, and validly published as a new species in 2024.[1]
Characteristics
[edit | edit source]Cells appear as Gram-positive cocci occurring singly, in pairs or short chains. The organism grows under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions and is catalase-negative. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene shows ≤ 96.6 % sequence similarity to its closest relative, Aerococcus suis, confirming its novel status.[1] The specific epithet kribbianus honours the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB).[2]
