Are you here because editProtectedHelper made an unrelated change to a page?

In almost all cases, this is actually caused by Parsoid rather than editProtectedHelper itself. Before reporting such an issue here, please do the following:

  1. Copy the source code of the old revision of the page to a sandbox using the source editor, and save it.
  2. Start editing the sandbox with VisualEditor. (If you have it disabled in Preferences, or you're using a sandbox in a namespace that doesn't normally support VisualEditor, you can temporarily switch to it anyway from the source editor by replacing action=edit with veaction=edit in the URL.)
  3. Using VisualEditor, make a similar change to the one that editProtectedHelper was intended to make, and save it.
  4. Check the diff produced by VisualEditor and see if it made the same unrelated change that editProtectedHelper did.
If VisualEditor did not make the same unrelated change, then report it here. If it did make the same unrelated change, then report it as a problem with VisualEditor per the instructions at Wikipedia:VisualEditor instead.
