Eddy Puyol (born July 4), who previously recorded under the name Rawsrvnt, is an American Christian rapper. He has released eight studio albums, five extended plays, several singles, and a few compilation albums with greatest hits.

Early life

[edit | edit source]

Eddy Puyol (pronounced "pooh-yole")[1] was born on July 4[2] in Miami, Florida.[3]

Career

[edit | edit source]

Puyol debuted in 2006 with his In Rare Form album. UK-based website Cross Rhythms called the effort "the best ever fusion of hip hop and worship ministry" and noted that it was "the benchmark for all future rappers seeking to get beyond dissing demons and the evangelism-by-numbers content of much holy hip hop."[4]

Winter Jam Tour Spectacular hired Puyol to craft a theme song for their 2009 traveling showcase.[5][unreliable source?]

In 2011, Puyol's No Ordinary Love featured the single "On Fire", which appeared on the Billboard Christian Rock chart.[where?][6][unreliable source?]

Later that year, he joined the Music Inspired by The Story Tour, billed as a musical journey from Genesis to Revelation.[7][unreliable source?] As part of the tour, he performed a medley segment on the 43rd Annual GMA Dove Awards.[8]

In 2012, Puyol created a hybrid EP with Jamaican reggae artist St. Matthew titled Soul Deep. The song "The Almighty" won the 2012 En Sound Music Award for Best Gospel Reggae Song.[9][better source needed]

In 2013, Puyol's "I Gotta Feeling/Take It All" mashup was used by DJ Promote to warm up crowds on Chris Tomlin's "Burning Lights" tour.[10][unreliable source?]

Puyol's music has been associated with various sports. NASCAR driver Michael McDowell (racing driver) selected "On Fire" for his track introduction,[11] the Miami Dolphins used "Game Changer" as the theme for their weekly coaches show,[12][unreliable source?] and ESPN licensed "There Go That Man" for their 2017 NBA Finals and 2017 NBA draft coverage.[13][14] In 2021, ESPN licensed Puyol's "Sigue Pa' Lante" for a Monday Night Football telecast to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.[15][unreliable source?]

Television

[edit | edit source]

In 2010, Eddy Puyol was cast on The Ultimate Merger, a reality television dating show. Puyol said, "Honestly, Christians have a hard time with this. I thought it would be cool to show what a real one looks like and how he approaches dating."[16] Puyol was eliminated in the third episode after having a one-on-one conversation with Omarosa in which he declared "I'm in love with Jesus, off top."[17]

Personal life

[edit | edit source]

Puyol married Chrissy Alvarez on July 19, 2014.[18][19] They have two daughters.[20][21] They divorced in 2020.[22]

In 2023, Puyol married his current wife Corinne. They have a blended family of six with the addition of Corinne's son and daughter.[23][24]
