Neoitamus cothurnatus, the scarce awl robberfly, is a species of 'robber fly' belonging to the family Asilidae.[1]
Distribution
[edit | edit source]This species is present in Europe.[2]
Description
[edit | edit source]Neoitamus cothurnatus can reach a body length of about 12–17 millimetres (0.47–0.67 in).[3] Males have tergite 6 predominantly tomentose, only shiny dorsally; epandria is short, more or less square. In females sternite 7 shows tomentose longitudinal stripes.[4]
This species is rather similar to Neoitamus cyanurus. The latter shows more elongate and almost totally black hind basitarsi, that are mostly red in Neiotamus cothurnatus.[5] [6][7]
Biology
[edit | edit source]These robberflies fly from end of May to middle of August.[8]
