Summary

[edit | edit source]

Cover of The Smiths' single "What Difference Does It Make?".

The original cover of the single, pictured above, was a shot of the actor Terence Stamp with a chloroform pad in hand. At Stamp's request to be removed from the cover, the image was replaced by a staged version of the original. The replacement cover features Morrissey as Stamp, holding a glass of milk, perhaps because of Stamp's known dairy intolerance.

Fair use rationale

[edit | edit source]
  1. No free or public domain images have been located for this single.
  2. The image is of lower resolution than the original cover and therefore any copies made from it will also be of lower quality.
  3. The image does not limit the copyright owners' rights to distribute the single in any way.
  4. For an article about a single, the cover artwork is arguably one of the most important images that could be included. This is the artwork, intended by Rough Trade Records for public distribution.
  5. This image is used on various websites, so its use on Wikipedia does not make it significantly more accessible or visible than it already is. The cover is being used for informational purposes only, and its use is not believed to detract from the original single in any way.
