Summary
[edit | edit source]Cover of The Smiths' single "What Difference Does It Make?".
The original cover of the single, pictured above, was a shot of the actor Terence Stamp with a chloroform pad in hand. At Stamp's request to be removed from the cover, the image was replaced by a staged version of the original. The replacement cover features Morrissey as Stamp, holding a glass of milk, perhaps because of Stamp's known dairy intolerance.
Fair use rationale
[edit | edit source]- No free or public domain images have been located for this single.
- The image is of lower resolution than the original cover and therefore any copies made from it will also be of lower quality.
- The image does not limit the copyright owners' rights to distribute the single in any way.
- For an article about a single, the cover artwork is arguably one of the most important images that could be included. This is the artwork, intended by Rough Trade Records for public distribution.
- This image is used on various websites, so its use on Wikipedia does not make it significantly more accessible or visible than it already is. The cover is being used for informational purposes only, and its use is not believed to detract from the original single in any way.
Licensing
[edit | edit source]This image is of a cover of an audio recording, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the work or the artist(s) which produced the recording or cover artwork in question. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of such covers
- solely to illustrate the audio recording in question,

qualifies as fair use under the copyright law of the United States. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information.
To the uploader:
- Please add a detailed non-free use rationale for each article the image is used in, which must also declare compliance with the other parts of the non-free content criteria, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.
- For example non-free use rationales, see Wikipedia:Use rationale examples.
- This tag should only be used for covers of audio recording releases.
- Either of the following may be helpful for stating the rationale: Template:Album rationale or Template:Non-free use rationale album cover.
