To illustrate a poignant scene in the episode (infobox). The shot is "the subject of sourced commentary":

  • The scene was created via computer technology; a freelance computer artist created a 3-D image of Scully for the scene where she is fighting the nurses in the virtual hospital (Expanded upon in the "Production" section). Furthermore, many critics positively commented on the scene: Todd VanDerWerff from The A.V. Club cited the scene as one of the best shots in the episode, and called it a "hysterical moment" (Expanded upon in the "Reception" section.)
  • The image represents a sequence that's presence significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and thus, its omission would be detrimental to that understanding. Describing the sequence solely using words (Virtual woman kicking a nurse) does not do the image justice, nor does it adequately describe the situation to the reader, nor does it show, in detail, the intricacy of the digital effects.
