Description Herbert Denison Cheney (June 6, 1873 – January 13, 1931) was an American football coach. He served as the head football coach at the Academy of Idaho—now known as Idaho State University–from 1902 to 1903. Cheney was an 1895 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and earned his master's degree in ancient and modern languages from Harvard University in 1899.
