Fair Use Rationale for image on The Gunpowder Plot: Exploding The Legend
[edit | edit source]Though the picture is copyright © to ITV, I (Hexhand (talk) 00:12, 12 July 2008 (UTC)) feel it is covered by the U.S. fair use law because:
- The image is a low-resolution screenshot;
- The image is being used for informational purposes showing in time-lapse, the recreation of the explosion that could have occurred, had the Gunpowder Plot succeeded, taken from the television documentary The Gunpowder Plot: Exploding The Legend; as such, Its use here is entirely encyclopedic in nature;
- No more free alternative exists;
- The use of the image in this article will have no effect on ITV's commercial use of the image in question.
Licensing:
[edit | edit source]This image is a screenshot of a copyrighted television program. As such, the copyright for it is most likely owned by the company or corporation that produced it. It is believed that the use of a limited number of low-resolution screenshots
- for identification of and critical commentary on the television program and its contents
- on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation,
qualifies as fair use under the Copyright law of the United States. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. For more information, see Wikipedia:Non-free content.
To the uploader:
- Please add a detailed non-free use rationale for each article the image is used in, which must also declare compliance with the other parts of the non-free content criteria, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.
- For example non-free use rationales, see Wikipedia:Use rationale examples.
- This template is only for use on images which are screenshots from television. For screenshots of title cards of television programs or station IDs, use {{Non-free title-card}} instead.
- Template:Non-free use rationale may be helpful for stating the rationale.
