Summary
[edit | edit source]Marcel Duchamp's 'Mile of String' installation, from https://icaphila.org/miranda_posts/his-twine-marcel-duchamp-and-the-limits-of-exhibition-history/<nowiki>. Photo by John Schiff in 1942 "Installation View of Exhibition ‘First Papers of Surrealism’ Showing String Installation... Gelatin silver print. Courtesy the Philadelphia Museum of Art / Art Resource, NY".
It is an installation view of the First Papers of Surrealism, an exhibition that opened seventy years ago at the Whitelaw Reid Mansion in midtown Manhattan. It was, at the time, the biggest surrealist shoIt is needed on the Marcel Duchamp page to illustrate his later work, his artistic development, and represents a different turn in his practice. It is a landmark work and an early example of installation art and is specifically discussed in the article. Only 2 photos were taken of this installation work, and I have uploaded 1. No other version is available and especially as this is experimental visual art, it is not properly described with words alone. Hesperian Nguyen (talk) 14:24, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
