Summary

[edit | edit source]

Photograph of an anonymous, undated drawing in the possession of Lindsay Clinton, a Weiser-Muhlenberg family descendant of Conrad Weiser, provided by Lindsay Clinton to the family history website http://www.rootsweb.com/~pajcwfa/association.htm. it is probably an artist's impression of Conrad Weiser rather than a life portrait or copy of a life portrait.

There is no certifiable image of Conrad Weiser in existence and this one is no exception. Neither the often used drawing of a man in a suit and top-hat, which was first published in the Walton book, nor this image are proven to represent Weiser's true appearance and in fact, the top-hat image is clearly a fabrication, as the clothing is of a different time and wholely inconsistent to anything Weiser would have worn. The Lindsay Clintom image bears close similarity to the one in Walton's book and it is possible that one was modeled after the other. It is also possible that this portrait is an accurate representation, however no age testing of the image has yet taken place. The great Weiser scholar, Rev. Frederick S. Weiser, did not believe that this, nor the Walton book image were authentic. Until it is proven otherwise, no image should be presented purporting to be Conrad Weiser without making it clear that it could possibly be inaccurate and a product of artistic license.
