Johnny Butler (1918–1963), halfback for the Phil-Pitt Steagles of the National Football League (NFL), receives the inaugural Robert J. French Memorial Trophy as the star player of the preseason game with the Green Bay Packers from the president of Philadelphia Inquirer Charities, Walter H. Annenberg, 1943.
