Book My Show is an Indian online ticketing platform operated by Big Tree Entertainment Private Limited.[3] Launched in 2007, it allows users to book tickets for movies, concerts, sports, theatre, and other live events. As of 2024, Book My Show operates in over 650 towns and cities across India and has a presence in parts of Southeast Asia.[4][5][6]

History

[edit | edit source]

Big Tree Entertainment was founded in 1999 by Ashish Hemrajani. Hemrajani got the idea for an online ticketing service after hearing a radio advertisement while travelling in South Africa. Rajesh Balpande joined the venture to oversee financial operations, and Parikshit Dar led technology development.[7] In its early years, the company developed inventory-management systems for cinemas and offered telephone-based ticket-booking with home delivery.[8][9]

In 2007, the company launched Book My Show as an online ticketing service for movies,[10] initially selling tickets for multiplex operators under agreements with cinema chains.[11] In 2013, Book My Show entered into a partnership with PVR Cinemas to distribute tickets through its platform.[12] By 2014, the company reported operations in more than 200 cities in India and cumulative ticket sales of over 100 million since launch.[13][14]

In 2013, it acquired Chennai-based TicketGreen.[15] Subsequent acquisitions included Eventifier (2015),[16] a social-media analytics firm, and a majority stake in Fantain, a sports fan-engagement platform (2016).[17] During this period, the company also entered markets in Southeast Asia,[18] launching operations in Indonesia in 2016 and later extending services to Singapore and Malaysia.

From 2017 onward Book My Show diversified its event offerings beyond films to include concerts, comedy shows and sports, and it added regional cinema partners such as SPI Cinemas.[19] Between 2017 and 2019 the company acquired MastiTickets (Hyderabad),[20] Townscript (Pune)[21] and nFusion (digital media content provider),[22] further broadening its ticketing and event-management capabilities.[23]

In December 2019, Book My Show reorganized its Southeast Asian operations into a separate Singapore-headquartered entity to manage activities in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka.[18] The move was accompanied by a regional leadership appointment and external funding to support the unit’s operations.[24]

Funding

[edit | edit source]

In March 2014, Book My Show raised US$25 million from SAIF Partners.[25] In 2016, it completed a funding round led by Stripes Group for an amount reported as over ₹550 crore.[26] In 2018, the company raised US$100 million in a Series D round led by TPG Growth, with participation from existing investors.[27] In 2019, Jungle Ventures invested in Big Tree Entertainment Singapore, the company’s Singapore-registered entity used for Southeast Asia operations.[28]

Partnership

[edit | edit source]

In 2010, Book My Show was reported as the exclusive ticketing partner for the Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab,[29] and as the official online ticketing partner for the Delhi Daredevils during the Indian Premier League's third season. In September 2017, the company announced an association with SPI Cinemas to list SPI screens and ticket inventory on its website. For the 2018 IPL season, Book My Show was reported as the exclusive ticketing partner for four teams, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals.[23] In late 2018, the company entered a collaboration with Grab, a regional ride-hailing platform operating in Southeast Asia. In November 2019, Book My Show partnered with Amazon India to enable movie-ticket bookings on the Amazon platform.[30]

On 7 August 2025, Book My Show entered a one-year partnership with RuPay, a card payment network operated by the National Payments Corporation of India.[31]

BookMyShow Stream

[edit | edit source]

BookMyShow Stream is a transactional video on demand (TVOD) service run by Book My Show; it permits customers to rent or buy individual films for online viewing without a subscription.[32][33]

Corporate social responsibility

[edit | edit source]

In 2014, Book My Show launched BookASmile, an opt-in donation programme that enabled customers to add voluntary contributions when purchasing tickets; in 2025, the scheme was rebranded as BookAChange, which the company described as focusing on scholarships and opportunities in music and the performing arts for disadvantaged individuals.[34]

Recognition

[edit | edit source]

In 2013, Book My Show was named Startup of the Year at The Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence.[35]
