Ataur Rahman (born 18 June 1941)[1] is a Bangladeshi stage and television actor.[2] He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2001 and Independence Award in 2021 by the government of Bangladesh for his contribution to drama.[1][3]

Background

Rahman earned his master's degree in science in 1964 from the University of Dhaka.[4]

Career

Rahman served as the general secretary and later president of Bangladesh Centre of the International Theatre Institute (BCITI).[5][6] He is the founder general secretary of the theater troupe Nagorik Natya Sampradaya.[1] He is a former chairman of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation.[1][7]

Rahman directed over 35 plays including "Roktokorobi", "Banglar Mati Banglar Jol", "Narigon", "Irsha", "Opekkhoman", and "Waiting for Godot".[1][8]

In August 2019, Rahman was appointed as an Awami League Advisory Council member.[4]
